Trail Overview

FS 46, Amicalola Creek Trail, is approximately 4.5 miles long and a relatively easy trail to navigate. You can enter from Nimblewill Road and exit the trail at an amazing campground associated with the Amicalola Falls State Park. The trail is a good mix of terrain. The portion closer to the State Park camping area consists of mostly hard-pack gravel roads that allow easy passing of oncoming traffic. When entering from the trailhead from Nimblewill Road, you can expect a winding, narrow dirt-based trail with some portions consisting mostly of stone. Following rainfall, there will be areas of standing water that can exceed 24 inches deep. There are convenient detours around the larger puddles along the way. The trail is heavily shaded during Spring and Summer, with better mountain views in the Fall. Check with the Blue Ridge Ranger District during winter months due to trail closures in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Vehicles accessing this trail are required to be licensed.

Nimblewill Road parallels a portion of the Appalachian Trail and conected to the legendary hiker, MJ Eberhart, the Nimblewill Nomad.

This trail is not a 2. Also, it is very narrow due to overgrowth very tight on spots so expect pinstripes on both sides of your vehicle and on the roof if it's got any height. When I got to the end of the trail the gate was closed saying that the trail was off limits. Luckily I was able to open it and get out. I really wish they would have closed the other end of the trail as well so I wouldn't have gone down that way. Granted, my 2012 Raptor on 37s is a pretty wide and tall vehicle. But it is definitely a narrow trail. And if you run into someone coming the other way, I don't know how they would get by.

4th of July ride... went on the trail from nimblewill. It was very tight and a little more technical than the app labels at a level 2. But if you have 4 / 4 and some clearance, you should be fine. I think that the big thing here was the overgrowth, really made the trail tight, and there is definitely. Some portions where you wanna have the map downloaded, so you can navigate.Once you get to the easy part of the trail, the trail is very easy to follow and drive on.

Definitely not a 2. I'd give the upper third a 5, but the lower 2/3 a 1-2. Very much fun to get through, and much narrower than the 4-rated Nimblewill part to the north.

Ok this was not a 2 whatsoever. Got mildly easier as you got closer to the park but the Nimblewill side and most of the rest of it was basically just super narrow and mud. I’m on 37s and we had no issue but it was… not a 2.

The top section near Nimblewill is NOT easy 2. It is moderate 5, requiring high clearance 4x4. Rutted in patches and rocky in others, it's not overly challenging. Just narrow, with a tight Rhodo tunnel as you approach the unlocked gate at Amicalola Crk Rd, which is smooth gravel

We went with three full size pickup trucks, the beginning of the trail is pretty easy but after coming to narrow road with trees it is pretty tight and gets muddy afterwards. Although there are few escape routes, if you do not want to get in the mud. For the first part of the trail I believe you can go with any car although after passing trees high clearance vehicle is recommended.
