Trail Overview

This out-and-back trail consists mostly of hard-packed gravel and dirt. As you veer onto the section at (34.65449, -84.17772), be mindful of seasonal gate closures. This trail features a few deeper ruts and narrower passages, making it difficult to find turn-around points. At the end of the trail, there is a small dirt roundabout that can double as a quick campsite for the night if needed. Cell service on this trail is pretty limited, so it's best to download maps before heading out.

Difficulty

Most of this trail is only wide enough for one vehicle. The second half contains ruts approximately 12 inches deep and 12 inches wide, extending for more than 50 meters at a time.

History

The history of this trail includes Hickory Flats School, established in 1850, which served as a cornerstone of education for the local community in the North Georgia mountains. For 65 years, the school provided basic education to children in the area, reflecting the rural values and traditions of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The one-room schoolhouse was a focal point of the community, where students of all ages learned reading, writing, arithmetic, and other fundamental subjects under the guidance of a single teacher.

This was a fun drive, mainly because I was able to drive a little faster than usual. It's too bad the road doesn't connect with other roads, but the round-trip was fun.

They must have just came in and scrapped the road because this was the smoothest trail in this area so far lol. Nice trail and the grave yard is really worth checking out
