Trail Overview
Woody Road Loop in Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area is a scenic, sandy trail that winds through pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, and stretches of cypress wetlands. Along the loop, you’ll find two small ponds with picnic areas perfect for a mid-ride break, as well as a fishing dock for those wanting to cast a line. The route offers a mix of open, sunny stretches and shaded canopy-covered sections. While generally passable, the sandy surface can be soft in places, and puddles or muddy spots are common after rain, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. Wildlife is abundant, making this loop a relaxing and rewarding way to experience Tiger Bay’s natural beauty.
History
Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area in Volusia County is named after the large wetland system at its core. Once used for logging and grazing, the area was later protected to preserve its natural habitats and recharge the aquifer. In 1998, severe wildfires reshaped the landscape, leading to major restoration efforts. Today, it’s managed for both conservation and recreation, offering opportunities for hiking, hunting, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing.
