Trail Overview

Dukes Island Road offers an easy, relaxing drive through the heart of Florida's Tiger Bay State Forest, making it perfect for beginners, scenic cruisers, and those seeking access to quiet recreational spots. Spanning approximately 3 miles, this flat, dead-end route begins off International Speedway Boulevard (US-92) and travels south through a scenic landscape of swamp and pine flatwoods. The road is well-maintained by the forest service, which frequently uses gravel to fill any washouts, making it highly accessible to standard two-wheel-drive vehicles under normal driving conditions. Drivers will experience almost no elevation change, with the trail remaining virtually flat at around 40 feet above sea level as it winds toward its southern terminus near Rattlesnake Island. At the end of the route, visitors will find a peaceful pond and a surrounding hiking trail, providing an excellent spot to stretch your legs, view local wildlife, or enjoy a quiet picnic before heading back. While the trail is generally simple and holds a technical rating of 1, heavy rainfall can cause localized washouts or muddy spots, so keeping an eye on seasonal weather is recommended. No special permits are required for driving this forest road, but offroaders should remain on the designated path to protect the surrounding wetlands. Since this is a dead-end trail, you will exit the same way you came in, returning north to International Speedway Boulevard.
