Trail Overview

Danny Hole Trail is a network of Tiger Bay State Forest that covers a diverse landscape of longleaf pines and hardwoods, white sand, and low cypress swamps at the infamous Danny Hole. Entering from the north on Rima Ridge Road, it is a well maintained two-vehicle wide sand and gravel road that is graded regularly. Some sections of it are wash boarded pretty good, and airing down is advised. Once turning west on Danny Hole, the road becomes a single-lane two-track trail of sand and gravel. Towards the beginning, it is maintained well and becomes more rutted out with deeper holes the further down the track you make it. Once reaching the low point of Danny Hole, the forest changes to cypress with standing wetlands. This area could be difficult to cross after heavy rains and has some mud along the trail. Once making it down to Gopher Ridge, it's recommended to turn around at the open field to the right. The trail is gated off at private property and is difficult, steep, and tight to turn around by the gate. This is a fun getaway trail not far from Daytona Beach and also offers camping opportunities that require reservation through the State Forest system.

Pretty fun mud holes down Hunters Trail after a down pour. High clearance vehicle recommended. 4x4 not required if you can skinny pedal out. one mud hole is about differential deep with 35 inch tires

Super fun. I think I hung a right onto a different track. Maybe trail hunter or king-somethin’ and it was full of cool stuff to drive through. Fun time

The main trail is in good condition and generally accessible with a 2WD vehicle, though a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. I took a detour onto Trail Hunter Rd, where I came across some fun water crossings and ponds. This detour adds about 20 minutes to the trip and does require a 4x4 vehicle. Overall, it’s a nice route with options for both casual drivers and those looking for a bit more fun.

I drove around for about two hours. They had done some maintenance to the trails, but they were all open. The trail was very clean, with some minor bumpy spots. Most trails were dry except the Hunters trail. I saw some wildlife along the way, and it was very peaceful.
