Trail Overview

Branching directly off the incredibly scenic Green Ridge Road, Willows Cabin Road is a beautiful, deeply immersive 2.2-mile mountain trail that warmly welcomes a vast array of outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and motorized vehicle drivers. As you safely traverse the spectacular, open alpine valleys completely enveloped by towering, majestic evergreen and aspen trees, you will encounter highly challenging terrain characterized by loose dirt, embedded rocks, and remarkably frequent, aggressive ruts. Right from the beginning, the demanding path commands your attention with 10- to 12-inch ruts that eventually plunge into significantly deeper, more formidable 12- to 14-inch trenches. Because free-roaming cattle are exceptionally common throughout this lush, vibrant grazing area, drivers must proceed slowly and respectfully at all times. The heavily wooded nature of the trail means that incredibly tight tree clearances are a constant, unyielding factor, making the route strictly unsuited for tall vehicles like Sprinter vans or oversized overland rigs. Furthermore, fallen timber frequently blocks the narrow path, meaning a reliable chainsaw is a highly recommended, if not mandatory, addition to your recovery gear. Ultimately, this demanding but deeply rewarding route offers phenomenal dispersed camping opportunities, stunning natural beauty, and a truly engaging driving experience for properly equipped, high-clearance off-road vehicles.

Difficulty

This heavily wooded, highly technical route demands significant off-road driving experience and a properly equipped, high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle. Drivers will consistently battle aggressive 12- to 14-inch ruts and complex, rocky obstacles that require approximately 14 to 16 inches of ground clearance and exceptionally careful line selection, earning it it's leve 4 rating. The dense, encroaching forest creates incredibly tight tree clearances, making the passage completely unsuitable and highly damaging for tall camper vans or oversized rigs. Additionally, drivers must be fully prepared to deploy a chainsaw to clear frequent fallen timber that regularly obstructs the demanding 2.2-mile path.
