Trail Overview

Venture off the well-known Green Ridge Road to discover Slide Road, a highly valuable and incredibly scenic 0.5-mile connector trail that warmly welcomes hikers, horseback riders, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and drivers of all street-legal vehicles and side-by-sides. Though its length may be brief, this highly efficient route is packed with utility, providing crucial access to several important points of interest and seamlessly linking to a broader network of exciting additional trails. Your short but engaging journey begins immediately with a brisk, invigorating climb up a noticeable 10- to 15-degree slope. As you ascend, you will carefully navigate a rugged mixture of packed dirt and scattered, loose rocks measuring 2 to 5 inches across, accompanied by persistent 4- to 6-inch ruts. Soon, the terrain intensifies, presenting larger ruts and distinct rocky obstacles that strictly demand approximately 12 to 14 inches of capable approach clearance for a safe, damage-free passage. Along this beautiful, wooded corridor, explorers will also discover a fantastic, tranquil dispersed campsite perfectly suited for a peaceful overnight stay in the mountains. Ultimately, Slide Road serves as an excellent, moderately technical gateway that is absolutely worthwhile for both its natural beauty and convenient connectivity.

Difficulty

Despite its incredibly short length, Slide Road earns a solid Level 4 intermediate rating due to its notably steep, 10- to 15-degree uphill climbs and consistently uneven, rocky surface. Drivers must confidently navigate a rugged mixture of loose 2- to 5-inch rocks and persistent 4- to 6-inch ruts that will jostle the vehicle. Furthermore, the route features specific, challenging sections with larger, more demanding obstacles that strictly require approximately 12 to 14 inches of vehicle approach clearance to safely prevent front-end damage. Standard, low-clearance passenger cars should avoid this specific connector, while properly equipped, high-clearance 4x4s and side-by-sides will find it to be an engaging, highly enjoyable moderate challenge.
