West Elk Ridge South

A large parking area at the trailhead can accommodate up to 30 vehicles or trailers. The trail begins with 8–10-inch ruts and is heavily washed out just feet from the entrance. At 0.1 miles, there is a campsite for up to three vehicles with level ground, a fire ring, and valley views. Additional campsites at 0.5 and 0.9 miles offer privacy, level ground, fire rings, and mountain views. The trail is entirely dirt and narrow, with limited room for passing. It becomes tighter near the end with potential for pinstriping. The trail connects to West Elk Ridge Road North, providing a much more difficult trail and a camp spot at the end. Overall, this is a scenic trail with several excellent campsites and great mountain views.
