Trail Overview

This is the more challenging second half of W. Elk Ridge Rd., leading to a small campsite at the end. The trail is narrow, heavily overgrown, and mostly dirt that can become extremely difficult when wet. Ruts begin at 5–6 inches and increase to 14 inches around 1 mile in, with washouts creating off-camber sections. Some areas have ruts up to 36 inches deep and more than 15 degrees of off-camber. Expect significant pinstriping from overhanging branches, and this trail is not suitable for wide or long vehicles. A campsite at 1 mile fits up to three vehicles, and another at the end fits two vehicles on level ground. Due to the severe washouts, this is not recommended as a solo trail. Carrying a chainsaw or handsaw is also recommended. Overall, this is a highly technical and challenging trail requiring careful driving and appropriate equipment.
