Trail Overview
Virginia Canyon Road is a simple dirt road with scenic views and lots of leftover mining equipment. While the road is generally plenty wide, there are occasionally times when you will share the road with mining company trucks hauling large vehicles and taking up space. This may require some maneuvering. Nicely graded and with easy climbs and declines, this road is easily doable for a scenic drive in a 2WD family sedan as long as the road is dry, spring through fall. Winter will be more difficult as there is no snow removal. Stop and check out some of the old mines littering the road, or take in the views from several hundred feet above Idaho Springs.
Difficulty
This trail is super easy going, and would be drivable in a 2WD family sedan in dry conditions. Wet or snowy, and the challenge rating goes up, as does pucker factor, since there is no guard rail and sheer drops on this shelf road.
