Trail Overview

The trail accessed numerous dispersed camping sites, skirting the edge of a 400-foot rise above Twin Lakes with expansive views of the surrounding mountain peaks. The area is mostly pine trees mixed with aspens and is heavily used for dispersed camping. There are many short spur trails off the main trail to access additional dispersed campsites. You will likely encounter other campers.

Difficulty

The trail is dirt with sections of 2-6" loose or embedded rocks and can be mildly off-camber in some places. A few hundred feet into the east side of the trail, there is often an 8' long water crossing of 2-6" deep water followed by a steep rocky hill climb which may require high clearance. The west and central entrances to the trail can be steep and rocky when departing the paved road. Pack out trash and follow Tread Lightly! Keep an eye out for posted signs as this area often has fire bans.

Very light muddy areas but overall clear, lakes are not frozen over, some trails remain closed
