Trail Overview

The trail begins near the end of the Gold Lake Trail on the south side. It consists primarily of dirt and gravel with some short rocky sections along the way. Sections of the trail can become muddy after rain or snow melt. Most of the trail is in forested terrain. Many sections along the trail are narrow and will only allow for one vehicle at a time, but most areas have some space to allow you to pull over and allow oncoming vehicles to pass. There are a couple of old log buildings along the trail to see. The trail ends when it meets back up with the west end of Gold Lake Trail.

Difficulty

The eastern stretch of this trail is generally smooth and obstacle-free, but the route becomes significantly more technical along the western portion south of Gold Lake, where narrow roads, tight switchbacks, and rock obstacles up to eighteen inches are present. These features make the final section notably more challenging than the rest of the route.

Ran the trail starting from the lake. 33”s no lift. Used center and rear locker in a couple places. Ineos grenadier. Trail was in good condition. Narrow and rocky descent on the east end of the trail near the lake.

Gave this a shot on my adv bike. Big mistake. It was Hell by gold lake. Definitely tested my limits. Extremely rocky with large boulders.

It was overall a really cleaned up trail. Not a single bit of snow on it. There was a few puddles that was pretty easy going. There were some fair sized rocks and technical sections which I was able to do with 33” tires a 2” lift and a rear sway bar disconnect.

I wouldn’t have scraped any part of the truck if it wasn’t for the running boards. If you’re unsure if you’ll make it take the good lake trail to the end, the harder part of this trail is down hill. Over all gorgeous views!!!

Definitely not green for adventure bikes as others have stated. Very narrow, some washed out sections would be difficult for larger vehicles. Solid 7/10 for larger adventure bikes though, once you start the drop in it’s very difficult to get back out so be cautioned. Definitely not the way to end a long adventure bike ride, claimed a lot of carnage on the bike on what was a detour sight seeing green trail.

Watch out mid adventure motorcycle riders. This is definitely not green for us. Some sections are very technical.

First time on the trail and it by myself by accident and just got stuck with continuing lol. Couple areas where high clearance is needed. Stopped at the old hut and went left to continue. “Not sure what the right way way” Definitely a steep uphill part right after that but that's slanted could be bad accident if not done right. Overall good trail

This trail was far more difficult than expected due to the erosion and narrow trails. I think this trail is best for a side by side or narrow wheeler like a Samurai or older 2 door Jeep. Expect to use every inch of the trail and have to 3 point a few of the switch backs. Overall I’d recommend you spend your afternoon wheeling a trail in better condition than this one. I would not recommend heading up past the old mining settlement unless you’re a competent wheeler and have a properly equipped vehicle.

Starting from the west (highway) and heading east, the trail is really just a dirt road with some rocky areas. It gets progressively more narrow and overgrown with some narrow and steep embankments as you head downhill. like the previous poster, the back half of this as it turns back is much, much more challenging. The trail gets very narrow with very tight switchbacks and quite steep with lots of large stones and loose rocks. There were some very hairy sections Wear a wider vehicle would not have been able to get through. I have a lightly modified Nissan Frontier pro 4X that has a mild lift for more clearance and I needed every millimeter of it. This is definitely not a level 3 trail. the first half of it is a level one through two and then it spikes into level five to six. I'm actually glad I went this direction and went uphill rather than trying to go downhill over those steep narrow sections. I was caught off guard by how quickly it got so challenging because the first half of it any Subaru could do.

This trail should certainly not be rated a green. Very narrow in places , steep drops , steep climbs, and 18 inch drops . If your trail rig is also your daily driver like mine is, I would not recommend taking on this trail.
