Trail Overview

This trail begins in Allenspark and heads up a ridge into the wilderness. The scenery is lush and beautiful, but views are blocked by trees. Camping is available along the trail and at the top. You'll see Rock Creek Ski Area mid-way up the trail to the left. The trail is open June 1 to November 30.

Difficult. Rocky, with several ledges. More narrow and steep at the top.

History

Owners were optimistic when the Rock Creek Ski Area opened in 1947 with two short rope tows and a snack bar. The lifts serviced five slopes covering beginner, intermediate and expert terrain. Expansion plans included a 4,900-ft. 'T' bar to be built by 1951, but with low revenues, the lans never materialized. (Source: Coloradoskihistory.com)

Trail was good today, quite a few campers on the 1st half of the trail. 2nd half of the trail is a legit 6/10, lots of rocks and ruts. Tree across the trail just after the “Ski Area”. If I had a chainsaw with me it would have been about 10 minutes work.

Made it up to about the ski area and to turn around. The snow in the shade is deep about up to my rock slider. Very rocky but great trail.

Starts out fine. Snow builds the higher you go. Towards the too it becomes impassable

Doable with a stock Ram 2500 quad cab. Saw one guy in a stock Raptor and an old stock 2500 Silverado with a big camper on the back. Just take your time, pick your line. Lots of places to camp if you want. Starts to get rough at the “ski” area on the map. No clue what that is, but that’s your marker on the map.
