Trail Overview
Moody Hill is a 5.1-mile off-road trail near Masonville, Colorado located within the Roosevelt National Forest. The route climbs from 6,566 feet to 8,529 feet, starting with a steep, technical ascent and a tight, rocky turn. A high-clearance, short-wheelbase 4x4 vehicle with skid plates is recommended to navigate this initial section before the trail becomes wider and easier as it approaches a quarry.
The upper portion of the trail features scenic pine forests, open meadows, and opportunities for dispersed camping. The descent provides views of the Larimer County foothills, and the route can be combined with nearby trails like Old Flowers Road for longer outings.
Difficulty
Moderate. The beginning of the trail has a steep climb with one rocky section on a tight turn that requires some offroad experience. We recommend high-clearance, short-wheel-based 4x4s with skid plates for the start of the trail. The road to the quarry at Waypoint 03 is wide and easy.
Access Description
The trail is seasonally open from June 15 to December 1. A technical rating of 4 (Moderate) indicates that intermediate driving skills are required. High-clearance, short-wheelbase 4x4 vehicles equipped with skid plates are recommended to navigate the steep and rocky sections at the beginning of the route.
