Trail Overview

This is an easy trail that takes you through areas of meadows at the top and bottom with forested areas in the middle. There are spots where there is some logging operation in progress. At the lower meadows in the summer, you will run into cattle grazing. There is a seasonal closure from December 15 through March 15.

I’m a Colorado native and seasoned 4x4 driver (not a rock crawler or member of any club, but skilled and experienced). My perspective of this trail is based on the vehicle I was driving, Sprinter high roof 4x4 (not AWD as in later models) with low range I don’t think this is an easy trail for my van, but perhaps it is for a smaller 4x4. For my van I would rate this an intermediate trail. I was traveling in the SW direction and encountered undulating ruts, often off camber and with protruding rocks. Off camber in a 9’+ high van takes some getting used to. Choosing the correct lines allowed me to make it through with no problems, other than a nervous passenger. The Easy designation made me think this trail would be easier than it was. Fortunately there were no incidents.
