Trail Overview

G37 is a beautifully maintained, highly accessible 3.4-mile transit that cuts straight through the heart of a spectacular, vibrant red rock canyon. This incredibly mellow route is wide open to all types of backcountry users—including standard passenger cars, full-size trucks pulling trailers, ATVs, side-by-sides, and horseback riders—serving as a vital, central connector between the region's sprawling trail systems. As you cruise along the smooth, dusty red surface beneath the towering, sheer sandstone walls, you are treated to an abundance of excellent camping opportunities. Both sides of the track are heavily lined with fantastic dispersed campsites, ranging from intimate, shaded pull-offs perfect for a single rig, to massive group clearings featuring stone fire rings and sweeping, unobstructed canyon views. Just before officially hitting the trailhead, visitors will also pass the developed Potholes Campground, which offers formal amenities for those seeking a more structured overnight stay. Deep into the drive, travelers will encounter a short, clearly marked segment of the road that crosses through private land owned by Abbott Williams; off-roaders absolutely must remain strictly on the designated path, maintain a respectful speed, and ensure pets are fully controlled before continuing onto the additional trail access points lying just beyond the boundary.

Difficulty

The G37 route confidently earns a Level 1 Easy technical rating because it is incredibly flat, remarkably well-maintained, and entirely non-technical. The 3.4-mile driving surface is beautifully graded and completely devoid of any deep ruts, jagged rock obstacles, steep intimidating inclines, or slick mud traps. Because the path is so forgiving and consistently wide, four-wheel-drive and high-clearance components are completely unnecessary. Any standard, two-wheel-drive passenger car or heavy truck hauling a large overland trailer can effortlessly and safely complete this relaxing transit under dry weather conditions.
