Trail Overview
The Doubletop Walrod Spur Trail is a 1.4-mile-long connector trail between Doubletop Trail No. 405, and the Doubletop Waterfall Spur Trail No. 405.3A. You can use it as a way to bail out of Doubletop, an advanced and rocky trail. From the west entrance, it descends down a semi-steep path for a mile, riding through scenic aspen groves on a skinny dirt single track, and widening up in the pine trees, dropping down several slick root ledges. The root ledges will be slightly more difficult to come back up, but are not overly difficult, as the trail is very wide, and you can pick a good line through the crisscrossing root bands. After the intersection with Walrod Gulch Trail, it ascends for a half mile to the intersection with 405.3A. There is another big root obstacle on a steep slope, but again, the trail is very wide and split-lined, so there are easy line choices through the roots. You’ll go through a shallow rocky stream crossing and through more scenic high-elevation meadows. It’s a relatively easy connector trail ideal for beginners looking to tackle slightly more technical terrain.
Difficulty
This is an easy and short trail, despite a few root obstacles, because the trail is really wide in these sections, so riders can pick good line choices through the roots. The majority of the trail is very flowy and smooth.
