Trail Overview
Embark on the breathtakingly scenic and delightfully accessible BLM 195, a 5.6-mile dirt trail that perfectly accommodates hikers, horseback riders, bicyclists, ATVs, side-by-sides, and all street-legal vehicles. From the very beginning, the route treats adventurers to wide-open, sun-drenched terrain that immediately provides direct, unobstructed, and awe-inspiring views of the majestic Book Cliffs. The initial stretches present only mild off-camber sections—measuring a gentle 5 to 8 degrees—paired with highly manageable ruts reaching roughly 6 inches in depth, making for a smooth and enjoyable ride. As you navigate the trail, at approximately the 0.6-mile mark, you will encounter a unique overlapping access point with Hiking Trail 190; extreme caution and courteous driving are highly advised here due to the shared-use foot traffic. Continuing deeper into the beautiful, sprawling valley, the trail reveals a couple of exceptional, high-quality dispersed camping locations. Around 2.6 miles in, a fantastic, shaded campsite rests peacefully beneath a lone tree, complete with a rustic fire ring and generous space for two to four vehicles to comfortably park while soaking in the expansive, panoramic cliffside vistas. A second, equally inviting dispersed campsite is conveniently located just a short distance farther at approximately 2.7 miles. Overall, this wonderfully straightforward and minimally obstructed route promises an idyllic outdoor escape filled with consistently stunning visual exposure and top-tier overnight camping potential.
Difficulty
This exceptionally inviting and scenic trail confidently earns an easy-to-moderate Level 3 rating due to its predominantly smooth, minimally obstructed surface. Drivers will easily navigate the mild, forgiving terrain, which features only shallow ruts measuring up to 6 inches and very gentle off-camber slopes ranging between 5 and 8 degrees. Because there are no severe technical obstacles or deep washouts, the route allows for a relatively steady, relaxed average speed of just over 9 mph. Standard street-legal vehicles and casual off-roaders will find this drive remarkably comfortable, safe, and highly enjoyable.
