Trail Overview

Set on an open high-desert plain, characterized by sagebrush scrub, badland flats, and wide horizons, and managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), BLM 114 offers a peaceful backcountry excursion. Accessed directly off County Road 206, a well-maintained dirt thoroughfare, this 2.1-mile single-lane track functions as an out-and-back spur leading toward scenic canyon rims. Recreators and overland campers travel this path to establish prime primitive campsites, enjoy sweeping vistas of the Book Cliffs to the north and Rabbit Valley to the south, or experience quiet desert solitude. The driving surface consists of a single-lane fine dirt and sand track featuring 5- to 8-inch wheel ruts, earning an accessible Grade 2 difficulty rating. Departing County Road 206, the path travels across level ground where multiple roadside camping turnouts appear along the way. The route culminates at a standout campsite perched along a cliff peninsula that drops off into dramatic valley views. Travel should be strictly restricted to dry weather, as fine desert silt turns into exceptionally slick mud when wet.

Difficulty

Earning an accessible Grade 2 difficulty rating, this 2.1-mile desert spur features a forgiving dirt-and-fine-sand surface marked by 5- to 8-inch longitudinal ruts. Technical obstacles, steep hill climbs, and high-clearance rock features are absent under dry conditions. Drivers should keep tires centered along established tracks, maintain steady throttle through soft silt pockets, and restrict travel strictly to dry periods, as wet weather transforms the fine substrate into sticky, unmanageable mud.
