Trail Overview
Almgren is a 1.7-mile-long trail within the Sheep Mountain trail network near Fairplay, Colorado. The north end of the trail starts from the Horseshoe Campground at a pinch point. The majority of the route is a wider trail through pine trees with small embedded rocks and roots, but it remains pretty flat and gradual. The rock adds a minor technical surface, but it’s not overly difficult, and is a great trail for less experienced riders, with easy access from the campground. It goes through a mix of meadows and forest, remaining wide and easy for most of the route. You may see hikers here from the campground. While the south half of the trail is very gradual, the north half of the trail has a few steeper spots and hairpin turns, but no major obstacles throughout the entire route. This trail is closed to motorized use from 1/1 to 6/15.
Difficulty
This is an easier dirt bike trail because it remains pretty wide, with no major obstacles, and just a bit of loose rock. It has a couple of steeper spots and tight turns through the trees, but it is a good option for less experienced riders.
