Trail Overview
This narrow, fine-dirt trail begins at a trailhead with parking for approximately 10 vehicles and provides access to additional trails and camping areas. Ruts range from 6–12 inches near the beginning and reach 12–14 inches in rougher sections. Expect frequent rock gardens with 2–6 inch rocks and rock ledges reaching up to 14 inches tall. The loose dirt can become considerably more difficult when wet. Fuel up before heading into the area, as the nearest gas station is approximately 30–40 minutes away. Camping is plentiful, with several sites within the first 0.1 miles and a large, shaded site around 0.6 miles accommodating up to 10 vehicles with level ground and multiple fire rings. The route offers expansive mountain views throughout, including a viewpoint around 2.8 miles with parking for three vehicles and panoramic views of the surrounding ranges. The route connects with Chango Lake Trail.
Difficulty
This trail is rated Level 2 because of the frequent rock gardens, 12–14-inch ruts, and rock ledges reaching up to 14 inches tall. There are no major technical obstacles, but careful tire placement is helpful through the deeper ruts and rockier sections.
