Trail Overview

Windy Frisco Road - FS 12N99C begins just after the fork with Frisco Road and immediately begins to climb. The single-lane, hard-packed dirt road features several immediate significant dips—though they are long and shallow rather than steep, and don't require high clearance. The first campsite is located just to your left, and it appears likely that a lower-clearance vehicle could reach it without trouble. From this point onward, the road becomes bumpier and more rutted, requiring higher clearance. Just over the hill sits a large second campsite featuring a substantial pullout area. There are no large ruts or overgrowth concerns through this section. The road eventually dead-ends at another potential campsite. While rain may make the route more challenging, in dry conditions, it remains accessible for most cars with reasonable ground clearance. The trail is primarily used by campers and potentially by fishermen when the water level is high.

Difficulty

The trail earns a Level 2 rating. While a lower-clearance vehicle can easily reach the first campsite, the road becomes notably rougher and more rutted as it climbs over the hill to the subsequent campsites, necessitating a bit more clearance in dry conditions (and likely 4WD if muddy).
