Trail Overview

East Driscoll Spur - FS 12N40A is a short, 0.6-mile single-lane trail of hard-packed dirt that is marked with a road sign right at the start. Right out of the gate, drivers face a steep uphill featuring significant water bars that require proper ground clearance to navigate safely. After the initial climb, the trail continues back into the trees, eventually ending at a dispersed campsite. As you progress toward the back of the route, the road becomes noticeably narrower and more overgrown, with branches and debris scattered on the road. Because of these tight conditions, this spur is not well-suited for wide or exceptionally large rigs. The trail is primarily used by campers seeking a quiet spot off the main route.

Difficulty

The trail earns a Level 3 rating primarily due to the steep water bars located at the entrance on an uphill grade, which will test a vehicle's approach angle and clearance. Additionally, the back half of the trail becomes narrow and overgrown with debris, making it a difficult squeeze for full-size or wide vehicles.
