Trail Overview

Webber Mill is an easy gravel road that follows an 8-mile section of the Pony Express Trail and is also a small part of the Northern California BDR. The trail winds along the side of the mountain from just east of Sand Flat Campground to Ice House Road and overlooks the South Fork of the American River and Highway 50. There are a few trails that shoot off of Webber Mill, along with a few spots to camp along the way.

Great short trail with a few spots that have good views of the American River canyon. Bushes on the eastern half of the trail are thick and will pinstripe a full-sized rig, but nothing terrible.

Trial was clear, no downed trees. Gets tight in some spots, minor brush, shouldn’t pin stripe.

This is a nice trail with plenty of spots to pull over and hang out. Some narrow spots where bushes might pinstrip larger vehicles. I have done it a few times, but on this day there was a downed tree towards the end of the trail.

First trail I’ve been on and it was pretty fun. There were a couple other people on the trail but nothing crazy. Some bushes are overgrown so I got some scratches but nothing major

Wet but still open. Some puddles but not much mud as the trail is mostly gravel.

Trail was mostly in good condition. There was the occasional rut, but the gravel road is mostly smooth. There is a fairly short section where the bushes are overgrown on both sides. SUVs and trucks will rub, but likely not enough to pinstripe the paint. Narrower/smaller vehicles could likely squeeze through. There are plenty of places to move around vehicles heading the opposite direction.

Simple trail and easy. Was scenic and calm. Approached trail from hwy 50. Headed north on Ice House road. We drove west to east with simple turns and no obstacles. The Last mile was an abandoned vehicle that was pillaged and ransacked. Authorities should clean this up. Continues back to Hwy 50. Nice detour on our way into So Tahoe.

This is a gravel road with a couple of little dips, but nothing any stock vehicle couldn’t handle. There are several side forest roads that you would definitely need four-wheel-drive and high clearance for that go off of this trail. Some pretty nice views of the canyon that Highway 50 is carved out of. We did several of the forest roads that run north or south off of it definitely a little overgrown but some really neat places to eat lunch, etc.. I could see in the winter with this being muddy. It might be a two or three on the technical rating for mud, but in the spring summer and fall it’s just fine.

Dusty and pretty quiet except for running into someone else coming the other direction. Some overgrown bushes giving me so very light pin striping. Never needed 4x4. Good trail for crossovers and lower clearance vehicles.
