Trail Overview

This 2.33-mile point-to-point trail starts at Bald Mountain Road and climbs almost 500 feet, ending at Forest Service Road 2S52E. The sand surface is 1.5 to 2 vehicles wide throughout. The trail starts in a recently burnt forest before entering a healthy forest of pine trees after half a mile. At mile one, you run along a shelf road high above a canyon below, so use caution and watch for oncoming traffic. At mile 1.3, the trail crosses a small Aspen grove, which pops with color in the fall. Bald Mountains Springs Campground sits along the trail, providing a convenient camping option.

Difficulty

This trail features some ruts from water runoff less than 12 inches deep in the burnt forest section. At mile one, rocks are embedded in the trail along the shelf road. At mile 2.0, there's a drainage ditch you have to go around, which is very off-camber.

A delightful drivedown to Bald Mountain Springs Campground. Several trees were down along the road, but it was easy to navigate around them.
