Vics Cat Trail

Vics Cat Trail is a 0.6-mile single-lane Black Diamond-rated dirt trail located in the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area. The trail runs through the Post Fire 2024 burn zone with scorched hillsides and dried brush visible throughout. Important to note, the Black Diamond rating sign only becomes visible after entering the trail, so riders must know the difficulty before committing, as there is no easy exit once inside. The trail starts at an unmarked green metal gate with no signage at the entrance; the only indicator is a red diamond marker on the gate itself. A brown directional sign becomes visible after passing through the gate. The trail is carved into steep, eroded hillsides with narrow shelf road sections and significant drop-offs. Dense dried chaparral and burned brush press tightly against both sides, guaranteeing pinstriping for anything wider than a dirt bike. A sandy wash crossing midway has deeply eroded banks on both sides. Switchbacks and ledge drops require precise control throughout. The trail ends at the West Freeman Trail junction. From there, riders can continue 0.6 miles down West Freeman Trail to a gate at the Badlands Trail intersection. The only ways out are back through Vic's Cat Trail, continuing to the Badlands Trail gate via West Freeman Trail, or taking the Badlands Trail, also a Black Diamond dirtbike-only route.
