Trail Overview

This trail serves as one of the main north-south routes in the area, running parallel to Highway 15. The trail is one and a half vehicles wide with a hard-packed dirt surface that remains relatively smooth throughout the journey. The route travels through a forest of healthy pine trees, scattered with brush and grass, creating a pleasant wooded driving environment with glimpses of the surrounding mountains through the trees. This trail is part of the Klamath National Forest, where extensive tree thinning is evident through numerous log piles visible along the route, reflecting active forest health efforts. A few shelf road sections appear along the trail, requiring caution and speed control to navigate safely, though they remain manageable given the overall smooth surface conditions. The area was affected by the 2021 Antelope Fire, which burned significant acreage in the region, adding historical and ecological context to the current forest conditions and ongoing thinning efforts. Visitors should be sure to check local fire restrictions and obtain necessary fire permits before starting any campfires, helping to protect the forest from future fire damage.
