Trail Overview

Stockton Flats is a scenic and easy-to-moderate off-road trail located in the Lytle Creek area of the San Bernardino National Forest. The trail is generally 2WD-friendly, though it is rocky in some sections, so a vehicle with a bit of ground clearance is recommended for a smooth ride. The trail winds through a beautiful forested canyon and is a great choice for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxed day out in nature. Along the way, you'll pass several Yellow Post campsites, which offer dispersed camping on a first-come, first-served basis. These are perfect for a quiet overnight stay under the stars. Stockton Flats also serves as a connector to other nearby trails, including Coldwater Canyon (3N06A) - A more rugged trail with some technical sections. Slade Canyon - A lesser-traveled route for those seeking more seclusion. And 3N06B - Another offshoot trail offering scenic views and light exploration. Overall, Stockton Flats is a great starting point for exploring the Lytle Creek area, offering both accessibility and the chance to branch off into more adventurous routes.

Due to the rain, cold water canyon would be a river crossing, and just after that, the road up the canyon further is washed out. Plus, the section before this has been ungraded by the flood waters. Be careful! We made it to the cold water junction, but anything after is kind of blocked off. At least if you’re by yourself, it’s less than easy nor safe.

Beginner friendly trail can be done in 2hi no issue. It is a bit rocky so I would recommend airing down by the gun range just in case. Visibility is good you could see on coming traffic pretty easily through 90% of the trail. The very end of 3N06 has a closed gate and ends as shown on the map. There is an area right before that is easy to turn a truck around.

Easy trail but very rocky, recommend airing down to make things comfortable. Not very technical, take coldwater canyon to get that challenge, this one can be done in 2HI all the way. Most parts are narrow enough where you’ll have to pull off to the side to let oncoming traffic pass. Very nice views and very little people if you go early
