Trail Overview

Santa Rosa Truck Trail is an out-and-back well-maintained fire road that climbs to over 8000ft. The lower parts are smooth and wide enough for two vehicles to pass each other. As it rises in elevation the road gets a bit narrower in spots and there are a few sections with small embedded rocks. The scenery is beautiful with some epic views of Palm Springs below. Various campgrounds at higher elevations have picnic tables and fire rings. There is a gate before the Toro Peak

It was almost 6 years since my last time on this trail; the first with my JL. The first 1/4 of the trail was rough with ruts and some rocks. After that it is smooth with a few rutts nothing to be concerned. Only people on the trail were communications companies doing maintenance to the towers on Toro Peak. Some were blocking my parking spot at the large space. So I found a shady space at a campsite and took photos.

Easy trail very scenic beautiful greenery highly recommend using a vehicle with some clearance as some spots are rocky and off camber for a normal vehicle.

Trail has various rocks which slow down the journey to the top, various pull off areas when you encounter other trucks. Great views, no campers and great trip to 8,800 ft. Also a good opportunity for some pinstripes.

Nice, relatively easy trail that I could do pretty much stress-free on my stock rig. Saw crossover suv’s coming up. Also be careful of dirt bikes, had to slam on my brakes a few times when they came around a bend. A 2wd sedan could probably make it up but may scrape bottom a few times. Hiked up to Toro peak from the closed gate, which was a steep 0.4 miles each way

Completed with a stock height FW. Overall the trail was fairly easy. The first 2/3 of the trail had a few rutted out areas and muddy sections, but fairly simple. The last 1/3 section of the trail had a bit of snow and frozen puddles. I stopped at the last rocky pullout before the climb. I saw two other vehicles headed up when coming down.

The trail was great the first 2/3 of the way up, beyond that there was areas of ice and snow. I turned around after a few sections of ice and camped at one of the yellow post campsites.

Nice easy trail. Some nice designated campsites and plenty of dispersed camping areas. I only saw 2 groups of people on a Memorial Day Sunday. I'll come back here.

Muddy and snowy in shade. About 8.5 miles in it became a bit too deep of snow to push with our van.
