Trail Overview

Uneven, rutted dirt trail with loose rocks and sand. Muddy conditions should be expected during the rainy season. The trail is primarily one vehicle wide with some portions wide enough for passing oncoming traffic. Steep cliffs and drop-offs are common throughout the trail, as well as sharp winding curves. Caution should be taken to avoid oncoming traffic.

Difficulty

This trail can be generally considered an easy route however, due to blind curves, steep cliffs and weather impacts to the trail should be attempted with caution and consideration for others on the trail.

Pretty dusty all the way up. A few people driving faster than they should around blind corners. Some sedans chugging their way up causing traffic. Campsites were fairly full at the time but we were lucky enough to score one.

Very easy and maintained. Didn't need to switch to 4wd at all on this part. View from the top was great and every campsite was filled with people except a few.

Aired down at the trailhead, one motorcycle came down as I was airing down. The condition was good, the leftover mud ruts were mostly erased. Road through the Yellow Posts sites were all open. Got a view of Lake Hemet from one of the upper campsites.

Trail was a little rough from reason rain. All the yellow post campsites were open except for #6. Amazing weather, little to no bugs, little wind.

Lots of groups up here camping. 2WD all the way up. Managed to get the last spot on the ridge at 5pm on a weekend. Insane views

2wd with high clearance recommended for most of the trail. 4wd needed for the large ruts near the peak. Very cold at night and a bit windy during the day. No standing water or muddy areas at this moment, when entering from the south side.

Some large areas of shallow water (4-6”) where its collected on the south - east side and ruts. Toward the peak the ruts were the worst and needed 4WD to be safe. Very windy, but great overall.

Trail is in great shape. A few cross rutted sections to slow down for. Nothing a stock 4x4 can’t handle. A few mud puddles, but nothing to worry about. Zero dust, as you’d guess.

Lots of snow and mud. You will need a 4x4 while this mud/snow is here. Nothing technical.

Very dusty and dry for the first few miles, but plenty of mud and slush once the tree cover got thicker. Lots of snow at the yellow post sites for frolicking.
