Trail Overview
This out-and-back trail runs along the San Felipe Creek wash with deep sand throughout, requiring constant momentum management. The route cuts in and out of the wash on steep angles, creating challenging vertical transitions. You'll end up in an open meadow with mud and sand scattered with lots of dead brush and bushes. The trail eventually loops back to connect with itself, creating a circuit route. Some of the crossings in and out of the wash are very steep, and long wheelbase vehicles will have issues hitting their approach or departure angles on these steep transitions.
Difficulty
The deep sand requires four wheel drive, high clearance, and airing down is essential for maintaining traction. The steep angles cutting in and out of the wash are the main technical challenge, demanding a careful approach and good throttle control. Long wheelbase vehicles will struggle with dragging or high centering on these steep crossings. High clearance and shorter wheelbase vehicles are better suited for this route. The mud and sand meadow sections add variable traction conditions.
