Trail Overview
This trail is part of Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, a California State Park where registered off road vehicles are allowed, as well as highway legal vehicles. Please pack out what you pack in to keep the area clean. The trail is sandy and one and a half vehicles wide, running north to south. The north half features more packed sand with washboards creating a bumpy surface. The trail climbs and drops over 150 feet in just under 3 miles as it winds through the hills, creating an undulating route. The route is lined with creosote and other desert bushes and offers nice views of the surrounding mountains, including the Devil's Slide. Despite the name of the trail, there are no ocotillo plants on this trail. The route crosses the San Felipe Wash and gains you access to many off road trails within the park, making it an important connector.

Difficulty
This is an easy trail with straightforward navigation on a sandy surface. The packed sand sections with washboards on the north half will create some bouncing. The climbs and drops over 150 feet are gradual and not technical. The San Felipe Wash crossing may require momentum depending on sand depth. The one-and-a-half vehicle width provides adequate room.
