Trail Overview
This two vehicle wide trail ends at the famous Devils Slide hill and gains you access to the Shelf Reef Expressway Wash and San Felipe Wash, making it an important connector route. The surface is deep sand and the trail is heavily washboarded, creating a jarring ride that will test your suspension. The route is lined with creosote bushes and seasonal wildflowers that frame the journey. You'll enjoy nice views of the surrounding mountains as you navigate toward the Devils Slide. The trail gains you access to some fun off road hills to explore beyond the main route and goes by a small airport along the way. Four wheel drive and good tires are highly recommended for the deep sand and washboard conditions.
Difficulty
The deep sand requires four wheel drive and good tires, which are highly recommended, with airing down essential for maintaining traction. The heavy washboards create a very bumpy, uncomfortable ride that will shake things up considerably, but aren't technically difficult. The two vehicle width provides good navigation room. Access to Devil's Slide and other hills offers more challenging terrain off the main route.
