Trail Overview
Meadows Trail is a highly scenic, gentle 2.5-mile loop that begins directly off Old Cottonwood Trail and eventually forms an easy, pleasant connection back at Maxey Ranch Road. The backcountry route is mostly smooth, lightly graded, and beautifully surrounded by wide-open meadows and picturesque, grassy fields that offer a relaxing drive under a sprawling sky. Ideal for a leisurely day trip, the trail features generally easy rolling tracks with a light elevation gain throughout. The landscape truly comes alive during the transition seasons; while fall delivers crisp, rustic charm, a spring visit treats explorers to vibrant greenery and stunning seasonal color. Along the way, drivers can expect to negotiate a few short, steep pitches that add just enough dynamic flavor to keep the driving experience fun.
Difficulty
Rated 3 (Gentle Loop with Punchy Inclines): Meadows Trail sits comfortably at the beginner-friendly end of the difficulty scale because the vast majority of the track is incredibly smooth, lightly graded, and completely free of intimidating technical obstacles like boulders or deep washouts. A standard, stock 4x4 vehicle can easily handle this relaxing route without issue. The only mild technical challenges present themselves across two short, noticeably steep sections featuring sandy grades. Depending on your direction of travel around the loop, these areas will require basic throttle control to conquer as either a brief climb or descent. Because this is a popular, two-way off-road trail, drivers should maintain situational awareness and look ahead for oncoming vehicles over the crests of these short inclines. High clearance or advanced driving skills are not required, making this an ideal path for casual sightseers.
