Trail Overview

Lyons Five -FS 11N28A is a lush, 1.2-mile dirt trail with dense overgrowth from the start. The road consists of hard-packed dirt but features a heavily overgrown midline thick with high vegetation, primarily grasses and bushy plants. It is a very narrow, single-lane track where pinstriping from the sides and above is a risk, especially at three specific spots where winter snowfall damage has left trees bending heavily over the road. While the trail does open up in some areas to offer a few pullouts for passing, it is strongly advised that low-clearance or overly wide vehicles avoid this route due to the scraping hazard. The trail concludes at a very nice, spacious dispersed campsite that provides plenty of room to turn around. This terminus is popular with campers and offers fishermen trail access to the South Fork Silver Creek from the site.

Difficulty

The trail is formally marked as a Level 2, but may feel more like a Level 3 strictly because of the severe overgrowth down the midline and the overhead trees. The road surface itself is hard-packed dirt, but the thick, high vegetation and winter-damaged branches pose a significant scratching concern. It is not recommended for lower-clearance or wide vehicles.
