Trail Overview
This 6-mile route out and back trail originating from Highway 77 within the Klamath National Forest. Like many trails in this region, it bears the scars of the 2021 Antelope Forest Fire. The trail provides an immersive look at a forest in the midst of salvage and recovery; remnants of the fire, including large, blackened, and fallen trees, are evident along the entire corridor. The route is characterized by a mix of recovering zones and forest sections that survived the blaze. It is a straightforward, functional trail that highlights both the devastating impact of the fire and the ongoing efforts of the forest service to clear and maintain access through the debris.
Difficulty
Carrying a rating of 2, the trail is primarily composed of hard-packed dirt and is approximately 1 to 1.5 vehicles wide. While the surface is generally firm and predictable, the trail is currently restricted: you will encounter a significant obstruction at the 3.1-mile mark, where a series of downed trees completely blocks further passage. Consequently, the route currently functions as a 6.2-mile out-and-back trip. Throughout the first 3 miles, you will navigate sections where fallen timber has been cut and pushed to the side; please be aware that some of this debris remains close to the trail edge and may pose a clearance risk for wider vehicles.
