Trail Overview

This is a difficult trail. There is no single large obstacle, just two tough boulder fields. Wet tires add to the difficulty as you cross Holcomb Creek several times. Stock vehicles are not recommended, but some try it going downhill. Winch, lockers, and skid plates are highly recommended. It is best to go with a second vehicle.

This was my first time doing this trail and this trail was also the most difficult I've done. The description here on OnX says there are two boulder fields. I would say it's more like three with some obstacles in between. Either way, it was a fun thrash. Had to winch twice and use front and rear lockers at multiple points. Skid plates are a must. Fun, challenging route with rewarding scenery throughout.

Ended up on this trail by accident. Its pretty challenging but i got through it 31" tires jeep Cherokee. 2 inch lift , swaybar disconnected, 4:56 gears and locker in front. Had to winch myself a couple times over some big rocks. Also ripped off my exhaust from the cat back. Took about 3 hours to complete by myself.

My friend made it about 20ft, and I made it 10ft, before we both got stuck and had to get pulled out. Both running 33" AT's (5G 4runner and 4g Tacoma). Snow was starting to melt and was hard and slushy. No traction at all. Other 4x4 with 35-40" tires were struggling but made slow progress.

I have a Tacoma with a 2.5" lift on 34" tires. I entered from the east. Turned around at the first river crossing / boulder field. The boulders are big enough and close enough together that you might get over one but will bottom out on another and crunch a bunch of stuff. I agree with others, this is more of a 7 than a 6.

This trail should be rated a 6.5. Not quite a 7 according to OnX description. There are some huge boulders that can hang you up quickly. Then as you try to correct your direction you slip to another side. Stacking rocks, lockers, 35”+ tires is a must. I watched a Gladiator with 40s get through semi easy. He still had to navigate with caution. I have a JKUR on 35s and had some difficulty. Sandy, wet, small to 6’ diameter boulders, and moderately off camber make up this trail. Do not go alone (that is not a challenge btw).

First off, I’d like to say that compared to other 6 rated trails in the area, this one should be a 7. I’m in a full sized Power Wagon on 37’s and had to winch twice. I entered the trail from 3N14, at the first creek crossing there are some pretty big boulders spaced out where I got stuck for the 1st time & had to winch out. After that there are a few other boulder fields which aren’t too bad till you pass the intersection of Lower Larga Flats (2N06X) then you hit a nice long one where I got stuck again right near the end and had to winch a second time. After that it’s smooth sailing right till the end of the trail where you hit the longest boulder field of all. This one wasn’t too bad if you choose the right line. Overall, it is a fun trail with some difficult obstacles. I would recommend going with another vehicle or at least having a spotter. Both of which I did not have. Also, I would recommend rock sliders, lockers front & rear and a winch.

Center rock garden is very eroded from previous years. Left uphill line is impassable at this time, many rigs had to winch through on the uphill line

Amazing trail but once you hit the creek crossing obstacles, you likely need at least a 4-5” lift and 35”+ tires to complete unless you want to risk diffing out or bending your drive shaft.
