Trail Overview
FS 4S02Q is a short, 0.55-mile dirt spur branching right off Owen Gorge Road. This two-way, single-lane trail starts wide and easy, with packed dirt and sandy two-track winding through sagebrush and scattered pines. It is suitable for full-size rigs and AWD vehicles. Near its northern connection with FS 4S116, however, dense brush creates a high risk of pinstriping. To avoid the overgrown section, turn right onto FS 4S02S at roughly the 500-yard mark for a cleaner exit back toward Granite Boulder Scenic Road.
Difficulty
The mechanical difficulty of this trail sits firmly at a class 2, as the mostly flat, packed-dirt and sandy surface lacks any significant ruts, large rocks, or steep off-camber grades. The terrain itself is easily manageable for stock AWD vehicles like Subarus and standard 4x4s. However, the rating also strongly reflects the severe vegetation density in the final stretch. While the early sections are wide and clear, the latter half becomes incredibly tight and overgrown, making heavy cosmetic damage (pinstriping) completely unavoidable for full-size rigs unless drivers utilize the early exit onto FS 4S02S.
