Trail Overview

FS 1S24 is a 3.2-mile, two-way dirt and gravel road, marked by a numbered post at the junction with the main road. The first stretch is easy driving, smooth dirt and gravel through open forest with wide views. Past a fork with a spur road, the road narrows, and grass and brush grow in close on both sides as it drops down toward a ravine. Dead standing trees from past fire line the road here. A sign at the junction closes the road to motor vehicles from December 16 through April 14; it's open April 15 through December 15. Best driven spring through summer.

Difficulty

The first portion of FS 1S24 is easy, smooth dirt and gravel with no significant obstacles, suited to stock high-clearance vehicles. Difficulty increases past the fork with the spur road, where the tread narrows and vegetation grows in close on both sides. Ruts appear in this section, adding some technical challenge, and drivers should expect reduced visibility from overgrowth before continuing beyond this point.
