Trail Overview
FS 1S13Y is accessed directly from Highway 120, making it one of the more convenient pull-offs in the area, and functions as a short out-and-back spur rather than a connector, since it terminates at a cluster of dispersed campsites. There's no through-travel or scenic overlook here, just a direct line to a handful of quiet camp spots. The road sits in the Groveland Ranger District of Stanislaus National Forest, where blackened, standing dead trees on the surrounding hillsides mark the lingering footprint of the 2013 Rim Fire event as grasses and low brush have filled back in below them. The surface is a well-graded dirt and gravel road, flat and evenly maintained for most of its length, with only minor ruts appearing at scattered points, a noticeably easier surface than the tighter, rougher spurs found elsewhere in this zone. Near the end, the road bends and begins a short, moderate climb over loose dirt and rock, the only real technical moment on an otherwise mellow drive. Beyond the climb, drivers reach the standout site of the group, a secluded, private spot where the Tuolumne River is audible just out of sight, making the destination worth the short detour off the highway.

The majority of the road is flat, well-maintained, and consistent, carrying only minor ruts at scattered points that require no real attention. The final bend changes that briefly, introducing a moderate climb over loose dirt and rock that's the sole reason the trail isn't rated a 1. That climb is short-lived and free of any deep ruts, ledges, or embedded rock, which keeps the difficulty from climbing any higher once the grade levels back out near the campsites.
