Trail Overview

Fir Cap Trail - South Segment - FS 10E22 is accessed directly from the northern segment of the Fir Cap Trail. This southern section is significantly easier than the northern segment, featuring several flat, smooth areas alongside gentle descents. The trail climbs over a small, unnamed mountain that completes the saddle of Fir Top Mountain, winding through a densely populated forest for the majority of the drive. The primary surface consists of forest floor mixed with dirt. While there are some small, loose rocks, there are no significant obstacles or steep grades. There is one section where the bushes have significantly grown over the trail, but it remains passable. Around the 0.6-mile mark, there is a brief ascent before the forest opens up, providing great views for the final half-mile. The route is very scenic and ends at an unassuming spot with enough room to turn a vehicle around if needed. Note that the trail is generally too narrow for anything larger than a standard side-by-side.
