Trail Overview

This trail climbs over 500 feet to the top of Fairmont Peak Tower. The route is rocky and uneven. Although a shorter route, airing down is highly recommended. Slow speeds are also recommended. Many rocks are sharp. Flats have been known to happen. There are views of solar arrays, adjacent valleys, and many wildflowers in the spring season. The north approach is gradual but rocky. The south side is very rocky and very steep. 4-low and 1st gear are highly recommended. Be aware of others going up and down. Parts of the trail are only one vehicle wide.

Difficulty

From below, the trail can appear easier than when you're up on the ridgeline and coming down. For a shorter route, you will be tempted to skip airing down. The very bumpy ride due to the uneven surfaces and rocky terrain will get you out and airing down before you get too far. The rocks can be sharp at times. Flats do occur. The south side is very steep and rocky. Sliding is a hazard.

The south entrance is a bit gnarly but doable. Must air down, pick good lines, and send it.

The climb up is very steep and rocky, need to air down. The surrounding areas have some fun places to ride, it's hard to tell some of what is open to the public and what is private. Some people have definitely been driving or riding in the poppy preserve, which is not open to OHV or any vehicles. Not really worth it's own trip but if you're in the area I guess it's nice to stop by and check it out. Not much to do here.

I definitely recommend running it south to north. The main reason: there’s a climb with loose rocks and a few obstacles about 1 to 2 feet tall, so it’s much better to face them head-on to avoid undercarriage damage. The trail isn’t extreme, but that section does require some line choice and attention. Coming from the south gives you a better view of the rocks and lets you tackle them with more control. 💨 Winds are strong, but if you bring a medium-sized drone, it’ll make a great companion. The aerial shots are totally worth it in this terrain.
