Branching off Forest Road M2, Espee Ridge (FS 23N39) serves as a convenient and picturesque connector route linking through to Forest Road M1. Set within the vast expanse of Mendocino National Forest, the trail traverses a mountain landscape of lush pine stands and high-ridge crests undergoing steady natural recovery following the 2020 August Complex Fire. Presenting a smooth, single-lane graded gravel and hardpack dirt surface with a subtle downhill slope, this easy roadway earns a mild Technical Rating of 1. Shortly past the upper entrance, the track passes through a seasonal gate before descending along gentle curves and timber corridors. Around the 0.5-mile mark, a spacious dispersed campsite rests slightly elevated among mature evergreen trees, offering an inviting spot for an overnight stay. The roadway smooths out even further past 2.4 miles, crossing cattle guards before concluding at 3.9 miles where it joins the M1.
