Trail Overview

Managed by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Charity 2 - FS31362 meanders through a scenic subalpine pine forest filled with towering evergreens and open mountain meadows. Accessed directly off of Lower Charity Road - FS 31206, the turn is unsigned but clearly defined and easy to spot. Outdoor enthusiasts primarily utilize this quiet backcountry spur to seek out secluded dispersed camping spots, explore the Charity Valley area, and enjoy sweeping mountain vistas across the surrounding alpine terrain. The route follows a narrow single-track path composed of hard-packed dirt and embedded stones before terminating at a turnaround loop wrapped around a grove of trees. Although the main turnaround clearing is fairly sloped, a short descent down the hill leads to a much more level, picturesque campsite below.

Difficulty

This route consists of a narrow single-track hard-packed dirt path with embedded rocks, earning an accessible Grade 2 difficulty rating. While the trail remains consistently firm and straightforward to navigate under dry conditions, passing oncoming traffic is challenging due to the narrow right-of-way. Drivers should maintain a slow, steady momentum over the embedded stones, carefully manage the sloped turnaround at the route's terminus, and evaluate the steep pitch if opting to drop down into the lower campsite clearing. Ground clearance requirements remain modest, and four-wheel drive is generally unnecessary during dry summer months.
