Trail Overview

This 9-mile point-to-point route serves as a picturesque loop, beginning and ending on the Three Sisters Trail within the Klamath National Forest. The path winds through a mature, serene pine forest, with the forest floor richly lined by sagebrush and a variety of native flora. During the spring and early summer, travelers are often treated to vibrant splashes of color from seasonal wildflowers, such as red paintbrushes. As you navigate the trail, the canopy occasionally breaks to offer stunning, filtered views of Mount Shasta, providing a beautiful focal point through the trees. It is a classic high-country forest drive that balances dense canopy sections with occasional open vistas.

Difficulty

Rated as a 2, the trail is primarily composed of loose dirt, though it becomes progressively more technical as you ascend. Coming from the south, the first mile is straightforward, but the road then transitions into a narrow shelf road that climbs in elevation. The surface here shifts from loose dirt to small, jagged rocks, resulting in a bumpy, uneven ride that will test your vehicle’s suspension. You will reach the apex at the 2.5-mile mark before beginning a gradual descent. A notable challenge is the encroaching vegetation in the center median, which requires high clearance. Most importantly, a large downed tree currently obstructs the trail at the 2.5-mile mark, making it impossible to complete the full 9-mile loop as mapped.
