Trail Overview
BLM SV2632 leaves the maintained residential area and enters scenic BLM land surrounded by Sawtooth Canyon and mountain views. The trail consists of fine, loose sand and dirt that can become more difficult when wet. It is double-wide with plenty of room for passing and avoiding obstacles. Rock gardens contain 2–7 inch rocks, while ruts reach up to 8 inches deep. Around 0.3 miles, a wash requires approximately 12 inches of front-end approach clearance. Camping is abundant along the right side of the trail, with more than a dozen campsites throughout the route. The sites offer level ground, fire rings, and easy access to the surrounding desert scenery.
Difficulty
This trail is rated Level 2 because of its loose surface, rock gardens, ruts up to 8 inches deep, and the wash requiring additional front-end approach clearance. The wide trail provides plenty of room to maneuver around most obstacles.
History
The BLM lands around Sawtooth Canyon reflect the long history of California’s Mojave Desert, where Indigenous peoples traveled and lived for thousands of years before miners, ranchers, and settlers arrived in the 1800s. The surrounding desert also contains remnants of the region’s mining and homesteading era, while its rugged volcanic rock formations preserve a much older geologic history.
