Trail Overview
BLM SV2607 travels over fine, loose sand and dirt that can become more difficult when wet. The trail is wide with plenty of room for vehicles to pass, and ruts at the beginning remain around 2–3 inches deep with no significant obstacles. The route travels through a scenic section of BLM land with expansive views of the Sawtooth Hills, surrounding mountain ranges, and open desert. Numerous level campsites are available throughout the trail, offering scenic places to camp along the route.
Difficulty
This trail is rated Level 2 because of its loose, sandy surface and shallow 2–3-inch ruts. The wide trail and lack of significant obstacles make this a relatively easy route under normal dry conditions.
History
The BLM lands around Sawtooth Canyon reflect the long history of California’s Mojave Desert, where Indigenous peoples traveled and lived for thousands of years before miners, ranchers, and settlers arrived in the 1800s. The surrounding desert also contains remnants of the region’s mining and homesteading era, while its rugged volcanic rock formations preserve a much older geologic history.
