Trail Overview
This trail is part of the BLM Back Country Discovery Trail system, adding significance to this route. The very beginning on the north side can be hard to find because winds and dust have reset the surface, requiring careful attention to trail markers. The entrance off BLM 075 is very steep with soft sand, where traction systems or lockers may be needed to climb up. An alternative ramp is available just to the east for those not equipped for the steep entrance. Once on the trail, the surface is soft sand, one vehicle wide, and fairly flat. There are some small whoops that get larger on the south side as you progress. The trail is lined with only creosote bushes throughout. The Coyote Mountains serve as your backdrop in the distance as you head south, while Superstition Mountain is your nearby backdrop heading north. The trail ends at the US Navy training and bombing area boundary, where no further access is allowed.
Difficulty
4/10 at the entrance off BLM 075 due to the very steep, soft sand climb, where traction systems or lockers may be needed. The alternative ramp just east reduces this challenge for those without lockers. Once on the main trail, the rating drops to 2/10 with soft sand and some whoops that increase in size on the south side. Airing down is essential throughout. Respect the US Navy training and bombing boundary at the end.
