Trail Overview

Following the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power aqueduct on BLM land, this seasonally graded soft sand route delivers stunning views of the Eastern Sierras and surrounding mountains to the south. The trail winds up and down through hills at the foothills of the Eastern Sierra Mountains, creating rhythmic elevation changes. Many shelf roads introduce exposure as you navigate the undulating terrain along the aqueduct corridor.

Difficulty

The seasonally graded soft sand provides an improved surface when freshly maintained, but degrades between grading cycles. Those many shelf roads create a psychological challenge with exposure, though the trail surface itself handles well. The winding up and down through hills demands momentum management, but nothing technically extreme. Soft sand benefits from airing down. The foothills location means significant elevation changes without Sierra-level extremes. Manageable route that rewards scenic views from those shelf road sections.
