Trail Overview
Old Cove City Road is an easy scenic gravel road that winds through dense hardwood forest and rolling mountain terrain within the National Forest. The route is generally wide and well-maintained, making it suitable for most highway-registered vehicles in dry conditions. Long stretches of tree canopy provide shade for much of the drive, while occasional openings reveal views of the surrounding valleys and ridgelines. The surface is primarily hard-packed gravel with a few rougher sections containing shallow erosion, exposed rock, and embedded stone, though obstacles remain minor overall. Gentle curves and gradual elevation changes give the road a relaxed backcountry feel without becoming technically difficult. The road also serves as a connector to the surrounding Buckhorn OHV area, Motor Vehicle Use Area, and nearby National Forest routes. Old Cove City Road is best suited for travelers looking for an easy forest drive with scenic mountain surroundings, quiet camping spots, and a classic Ozark backroad atmosphere.
